Play on Words

This piece was inspired by Maya Angelou’s poem, “Phenomenal Woman.” I read her poem after feeling a bit depleted recently, and it really lifted my spirits.

Every now and then, I seem to need some perspective in seeing myself as an individual underneath all of the roles I play. And Maya’s poetry, like almost everything she wrote, empowers me and gives me strength.

I would like to dedicate this post to all of the female writers and authors out there who support me while I continue to learn the craft and discover more about myself every single day.

Play on Words

She is heat, skin, and breath

Curious, capable

Complexity, simplicity alive

Serenity and chaos

Curves and perfume

Innocence, sin, dark, and light

She is momentary

Spilling words on a page

She is free –

Creator, muse, force

Leaving marks of her own

Passionate, determined, complete.
