Caught

They were alone with the horizon. An enormous wave splashed into the sky. He closed his right eye, watched her with his left.

“I think I’m going to fall,” she teased. She pirouetted, moved closer to the edge.

He lowered to the ground in front of her, switched eyes, caught the churning water behind her silhouette.

“Aren’t you going to stop me?” She glanced over her shoulder.

With both eyes open, he kissed her knees. “Like rain.”

“What?”

“Love.”

“Falling?”

“Can’t stop.”

Her hand slipped from his grasp. “Would you fall for me?”

He stood and met her eyes. “Can’t stop.”

“Like rain?”

“Like rain.”

She curled her toes into the cliff’s warm sand. He felt her whole body lean into him as he enveloped her in his arms.

  1. What a lovely post to kick off your blogging year. Happy 2018!

  2. Beautiful post, Kelly. Sadly, we’re freezing here in Charlotte. Happy New Year!

  3. Nice Post Kelly! Like rain always and a Happy New Year to you!

  4. That was a really nice piece, it’s pretty cold and wet here so I’m staying inside where I can! ☺️

  5. Almost a poem, short, and image filled. I would like to see you write one using a rollercoaster ride for a metaphor for 2018

    • Hi there and thank you! Just flashed back to something I wrote in 2016 that was accompanied by a rollercoaster photo. It was called “More Than A Feeling,” one very long stream of summer images. I think I posted it in the wintertime too.
I’ll see what I can do with something new in the coming year, although “rollercoaster ride” pretty much sums things up around here! Happy New Year and thanks for the visit.

  6. Nice one Kelly. Happy 2018.

  7. Happy New Year Kelly! Love the post. As the kids say…brings out all the right ‘feels’ 🙂 As with everyone else here…freezing our winter nuts off, hoping for relief. Stay warm my friend, good to see you. xo

    • Hi Rhonda! Thank you and Happy New Year! You are exactly what this (or any) comment section needs!
Wow, must really be cold there if yer nuts are freezin’ off! lol You’re probably better off without them, but for heaven’s sake, keep the rest of your girly bits warm! (As the kids would say) Haha! Great to see you xoxo

  8. There you are. Nice, long break. The ‘romantic fiction’ tag made me pause. A lot of romance feels fictional. Even the real thing can morph into an ideal.

    • Yeah, have to watch out for those romantic ideals… can lead to expectations that cause all kinds of trouble. Guess the romance writers are to blame for creating unrealistic ideals in the first place! Good to see you, Happy New Year, Mark.

  9. Wonderful, Kelly. This reads like poetry. Happy New Year, my friend. ❤

  10. Lovely post to start the new year 🙂
